How do I report illegal advertising signs on public property?

Zeinab Savage

In Wilmington, citizens can call (910) 341-3266 with the complaint and address of the sign, according to Williane Carr, the city’s chief code enforcement officer. After the complaint has been issued, it is then assigned to a code enforcement officer to conduct an investigation. If the sign is placed in the right-of-way, it is removed. If on private property, they will contact the owner.

To report an illegal sign on public property in New Hanover County, citizens must call (910) 798-7116 with the complaint and the location of the sign, said Linda Painter, a New Hanover County zoning compliance official. Zoning officials then go to investigate whether the sign should be removed or the owner should be contacted.

At one time it was illegal to place political signs in median strips in Wilmington. Is that still true?

When signs state how many miles to Wilmington, to what part of the city are they referring?
