Sam Ryan initially had her law license suspended for a 90-day period on April 15 because of “certain health care conditions,” according to N.C. Superior Court documents.
At that point, Franklin E. Martin was appointed as trustee of Ryan’s law practice, according to the document.
Then, on June 6, Superior Court Judge W. Allen Cobb transferred Ryan to consensual inactive status, meaning she cannot practice law in the state again “unless and until the court returns her to active status.”
To be returned to active status, Ryan will have to prove that she is healthy enough to practice law again, with evidence corroborated by her doctors and the Lawyer Assistance Program.
