Q. Why does New Hanover High School not receive the proceeds from varsity football concessions at Legion Stadium? This puts them at a huge disadvantage with the other high schools that keep concession profits. And who gets the money from NHHS sales?

New Hanover High School students display their school spirit at a Football Jamboree at Legion Stadium.
A. New Hanover High School does receive proceeds from football concessions at Legion Stadium. Athletic director Keith Moore said the school receives 30 percent.
“It’s a little different because at other schools that run their own, once you pay for everything up front, you get all the proceeds,” Moore said. “But we (the athletic department) do get a percentage.”
Moore said various sports teams at New Hanover volunteer to work the concessions at football games, and the respective teams get an additional percentage of the sales on top of what the athletic department gets. Moore estimated that amount at 12 percent.
