Coroners during this time frame are virtually impossible to track down. Being a coroner was secondary to the person’s main profession.
After checking through county and court files with the help of Jennifer Daugherty in the North Carolina Room at the main branch of the New Hanover County Public Library, we could not find a listing of coroners.
If any of you had any members of your family or know of anyone who filled this capacity during this time frame. Please let us know in the Comments section below.

I had thought my great grandfather was one because we found his small bible with the word CORONER written on the edge. I can’t verify it though like you said it is hard to find…I am trying everything I know to track down some ancestors…thanks for the help
Best of luck tracking that down. Do you know what your great-grandfather’s other occupation was? Was he a physician?
