In its 50 year history the building at 7 Wayne Dr. has been many restaurants, most of which were popular and well remembered.

Built in 1963 it opened as Fisher’s Restaurant and remained that until 1974 when the Lob Steer Inn moved in.

Garden Inn occupied 1977 until 1980.

The Terrace Inn was there from 1980 until 1990. 1992 was Hobbs House, 1993 and 1994 was El Cerro Grande, 1995 Touch of Italy, 2000 and 2001 was Forrester’s Café/Cafeteria.

Indochine moved in 2002 and remains today.

We would like to hear your memories of these restaurants. Why do you think there were so many of them? Let us know in the Comments section below.

UPDATE: Bob Walton wrote us to say his wedding rehearsal dinner was held at Fisher’s Restaurant on Dec. 28, 1962, so the restaurant was already open then. They were married the next day.

MyReporter believes Walton because people certainly tend to remember dates like that. So we’ll take his word for it that the restaurant was open before 1963.

We were relying on information from the city directories, but we made the assumption that the building must have gone up in 1963.

In an earlier answer about the original business in that building, we reported: “The familiar structure at 7 Wayne Drive, Wilmington [Map this], just off Market Street, was listed as ‘under construction’ in the 1962 and 1963 Wilmington city directories.”

Thanks to Walton for writing, and congratulations to both Bob and Marty Walton on their upcoming 51st wedding anniversary.
