Q. What are the salaries paid to the Chamber of Commerce staffers? What is Connie Majure-Rhett’s salary? And are they city employees?

A. Connie Majure-Rhett, ‎President & CEO of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, said chamber salaries are not public information except for hers, which is $131,000 a year.

Nonprofits, she said, are required to disclose the salary of the highest paid employee on their IRS 990 tax-exempt forms.

The chamber is a 501(c)6 nonprofit, not an arm of city government.

“We are totally independent of the government,” Majure-Rhett said. “We are absolutely representing the business community and are independent of everyone else.”
