Amanda Glynn, N.C. Department of Transportation’s division bridge program manager, said the bridge was finished in 1961, but it appears that the bridge wasn’t completed until August 1962.
According to numerous sources, 1962 was the completion date for that bridge.
In late 2012, the DOT started a rehabilitation project including replacing dilapidated concrete and worn-out bearings, as well as painting girders. The project is expected to extend the structure’s life for another 30 years.
