Q. The ROTC program at New Hanover High School used to have a precision drill team called the Cape Fear Rifles. What became of this team?

The Cape Fear Rifles show up in numerous StarNews articles from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. But mentions of the precision drill team fall off after that.

Calls to the historians at the New Hanover County Library turned up nothing, and calls to New Hanover High School’s ROTC program were not returned.

The most recent mention of the Cape Fear Rifles that we could find was in a 1977 StarNews article about an ROTC dance at New Hanover High School.
