New Hanover County Schools tracks student attendance in several ways – but not by the weather.
“We certainly have no database to track that, as we wouldn’t have any reasonable way to know when ‘good’ surfing days occur,” said Rick Holliday, assistant superintendent for student support services for the district.
While student attendance levels in the county are always better than 90 percent, Holliday said, “there are always students who miss school for reasons that may not be excused.”
