Q. I often walk around the lake at Smith Creek Park and am perplexed by the sign there posting distances. Although there is only one walking path around the lake, which is an irregular circle with no alternates, the sign states that the distance around one way is 1.25 miles but in the reverse direction is 1.3 miles. How can that be? It is the same path either way.

A. Smith Creek Park Lake is 1.3 miles around exactly, said Andy Johnson, assistant director of Parks for New Hanover County. Johnson also said the county will go out to the park and correct any signage that is inaccurate or misleading.
