Has WECT/WFSX stopped having sports as a part of their broadcasts?

Mike Voorheis

The station hasn’t stopped covering sports, said WECT News Director Scott Saxton.

Longtime sports director Bob Bonner has moved to the morning news team and John Smist anchors the sportscast Wednesday through Saturday. A regular sports report is built into the newscast at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on WECT and 10 p.m. on WSFX on the days Smist works.

On Smist’s off days (Monday and Tuesday), photographers record local sports events and the news anchors deliver the relevant sports news.

That might change during the high school sports season, Saxton said. Because lots of high school basketball games, in particular, are played on Tuesday nights, WECT and WSFX might need to make some adjustments.

What happened to Michelle Li of Fox Wilmington News?

Why is WWAY’s Cacky Catlett only anchoring the 6 p.m. news and not the 11 p.m. news?
