Q. Why didn’t UNCW and Campbell University play baseball this year? They both are nationally ranked and in fact Campbell played just about every other college team in the state of North Carolina.
A. UNCW and Campbell had one of the longest-running college baseball series in the state, dating back to the schools’ junior college days before Campbell opted to temporarily halt the series after the 2011 season. The teams did not play in 2012 or 2013, although UNCW coach Mark Scalf says the Camels are back on the schedule in 2014.
