Are there any plans to add a sidewalk or bike path along Sanders Road?

Q. Are there any plans to add a sidewalk or bike path along Sanders Road? Shopping and the school would be more accessible to the increasing number of residents in this area if there was a safe way to get there.

 A. New Hanover County does not have any plans to add a sidewalk or bike path along Sanders Road. All sidewalks are created and operated by different neighborhoods, according to New Hanover County spokesperson Charles Smith.

Typically, sidewalks in the county are built by the developer as land is developed or redeveloped.

County officials often mandate the inclusion of sidewalks as part of a project’s planning-approval process.

Bike paths/lanes are generally added along state-maintained roads when a roadway is widened and/or repaved by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

But because of the cost, limited funds and other factors, bike-friendly facilities aren’t included in all roadway projects.
