Q. What happened to the plans to build a CMS Food Solutions plant in Leland thatwould supposedly bring 52 jobs and a $4.4 million investment, announced Nov. 2011?
CMS Food Solutions lost a customer, delaying completion of its Leland facility, said Jim Bradshaw, executive director of the Brunswick County Economic Development Commission. It originally had been scheduled to be done by the end of 2012, he said.
But CMS has found three other customers and things are “proceeding well,” Bradshaw said, adding that he had spoken with CMS’ president last week.
In 2011, the governor’s office announced that CMS would open a plant in Leland and employ 52 people.
The company bought the 60,000-square-foot former Southport Boat Works building in the Leland Industrial Park. The project was to receive a $32,000 grant from the state’s One North Carolina Fund and Brunswick County was to match the grant with $32,000 a year for three years.

Is it still planning on opening?
As far as we know, the answer we provided in May is still true. But in uncertain economic times, sometimes it takes longer than expected for projects like this to come to fruition. If CMS makes an announcement, we’ll have a story in the StarNews and at StarNewsOnline.com.
