There are no more moving pictures at the old Cinema 6 property on Oleander Drive, which UNCW uses as a park-and-ride lot. StarNews photo by Si Cantwell.

Q. Does UNCW plan to remove the Cinema 6 sign from its property on Oleander Drive? When there are cars in the lot, out of town visitors still think the movie theaters are in business.

A. The university hasn’t looked into removing the sign, said Charlie Maimone, UNCW’s vice chancellor for business affairs. But he said UNCW would look into the cost of doing so and of repairing the building to see if it was feasible.

Are UNCW’s construction projects put out for public bid? How do you bid on them?

I find it interesting that I witnessed a UNCW maintenance vehicle replacing light bulbs in the Cinema 6 sign about a year ago. I thought this was ridiculous at the time and I wonder if they still do this.
