Q. In walking on the Cape Fear River Walk on Feb. 8, 2013, I noticed lots of cars parked on the vacant lot adjacent to the Convention Center. The parking deck was not full at the time so I wonder why the city would allow vehicles to park in the grass (certainly not an improved permitted parking area) when the parking deck had plenty of space. I have pictures if you are interested in seeing this.
A. The parking on Feb. 8 was not associated with an event at the Wilmington Convention Center. Dylan Lee, who works in the City of Wilmington’s communications office, said he was not sure why cars were in that location on that day but that parking on the grass is not allowed and is enforced if the city finds out about it.
“We can enforce it if we’re aware of it but nobody was aware of it at that time,” Lee said.
