The shiny new Kmart at 815 S. College Rd was joined by the Big Star grocery store in the shopping strip.
Since the opening in 1975, Kmart had many neighbors before finally filling out all the space themselves. Big Star was the occupant from 1975 until 1981.
A few small short-term leases came and went until Wilson’s grocery store moved in 1983 and were tenants until 1988.
Books for Less lasted less than a year in 1990, but they were one of the few places open during the famous blizzard that year, saving Christmas while a lot of other stores were unable to open.
From 1992 to 1993, the space was once again filled with short term rentals.
In 1995 Crafters Creations a shop with finished crafts and gifts was the final tenant before Kmart took over the whole space.
Kmart closed the store at Monkey Junction in 1995.
