What’s become of the old Flip’s Nursery in Hampstead?

John Peaspanen

Q. What’s become of the old Flip’s Nursery in Hampstead? It appears full of plants but is now very over grown.

A. It appears that Flip’s Nursery is no longer operational.

The 3-acre nursery, located along U.S. 17 in Hampstead, has stood unattended for some time now. Weeds and grass have indeed grown up around the remaining potted deciduous and evergreen plants.

According to the N.C. Department of Agriculture, the business contact was Jody Hulin, 114 Broadview Lane, Hampstead [Map this]. When we attempted to call the number on record, it was a fax machine. No other phone numbers were obtained.

Records at the NCDA say that the retail/wholesale nursery remains certified until Sept. 30 of this year. Judging from the current appearance of Flip’s Nursery, it does not appear the certification will be renewed.

Whatever happened to the plans to build the Dolphin Aquatics and Fitness Center in Hampstead?

What’s happening with the old El Agave site at 3522 Oleander Drive, next to the tobacco shop?
