The roundabout planting project is a small business contract let by the N.C. Department of Transportation using Roadway Enhancement Funds, said Joseph Chance, NCDOT Division 3 roadside environmental engineer.
“The Greater Porters Neck Foundation has accepted the maintenance responsibilities of the roundabout after the contract is completed,” Chance said
NCDOT is also exploring the possibility of planting and landscaping the roundabout at Middle Sound Loop Road, “but need someone to accept the maintenance after the contract has been completed,” Chance said.
“I have been contacted by Landscape Solutions and Nursery Inc., asking to accept the maintenance of the roundabout after we have completed the planting project,” he said.
If roundabout maintenance can be worked out, the Middle Sound Loop Road project will be let to contract in October, Chance said.
