Q. When are the tree trimmers for the power lines going to clean up their debris along Bragg Drive? They appear to just butcher the trees in the area and then have not cleaned up their mess.
A. A cleanup crew should be on the scene by today (Wednesday, Feb. 27), said Gary Jones, a Progress Energy vegetation inspector in New Hanover County.
“Normally, in a wooded area we run a bush hog through the area and cut it up into little pieces,” Jones said. “These were not cut up as small as they need to be.”
Progress Energy has a 15-foot right-of-way on the street and field/yard sides of the poles it maintains, he said.
“The trees were grown up pretty good here” in the Bragg Drive neighborhood, Jones said.
Contractors employed by Progress Energy have been working in the Pine Valley area about a month clearing vegetation from power lines and poles, Jones said.
“I’m sending them out there to get what they left,” Jones said. “They will come here and chip this stuff up.”
The crew should finish the Bragg Drive cleanup by the end of the week or Monday, Jones said.
