No need for investigation. It was a celebration.
On that particular date, the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation used the space to raise funds for a good cause.
According to Wilmington International Airport Director Jon Rosborough, “The airport is used by various organizations during the course of the year. The NHRMC Foundation held its 13th annual Founders’ Gala at one of Air Wilmington’s hangars on Saturday, Jan. 26, and raised over $100,000 to support NHRMC’s Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital. Over 600 guests attended this event, and they parked their vehicles in the parking lot at U.S. Customs.”
Guests of the gala enjoyed food provided by more than 20 local restaurants and danced to music by the band Party on the Moon. The event was sold out and is the largest fundraiser for the Women’s & Children’s Hospital.
Rosborough said the airport hosts events for many individuals and organizations, including the movie studio, civic clubs, New Hanover County, the city of Wilmington, local attorneys, the Azalea Festival Circus and the County Fair. He said anyone wishing to hold an event at ILM can contact Director of Operations Gary Broughton at 910-341-4333, ext. 1004.
