The quick answer is yes on Saturdays and no on Sundays, but below is much more information as provided by Monica Robbs, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Service.

Five traditional post offices in Wilmington have Saturday retail hours. Here they are:

Main Post Office: 152 N. Front St., 28401 (9 a.m. to noon)

Azalea Station: 3916 Oleander Drive, 28403 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

Dogwood Station: 314 Lennon Drive , 28405 (9 a.m. to noon)

Magnolia Station: 8207 Market St., 28411 (9 a.m. to noon)

Myrtle Grove Station: 5675 Carolina Beach Road, 28412 (9 a.m. to noon)

Postal services are also available on from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays at Wrigglesworth ACE Hardware Contract Postal Unit at 3516 S. College Road.

There are also blue collection boxes which customers can use to deposit mail (up to 13 ounces, with restrictions). The locations and cutoff times for those boxes are available at USPS.com. Select the “Find Locations” tab on the left side and follow instructions.

The Azalea, Dogwood and Myrtle Grove offices also have Automated Postal Centers. The stand-alone kiosks offer many services outside of regular postal hours, for customers mailing and shipping domestically and using a credit or debit card. The cutoff times for collections are posted at each lobby drop box.

Also, any outgoing mail collected by carriers from residents and businesses will be dispatched the same day.

Although Express Mail deliveries can be scheduled for Sunday delivery, there are no outgoing services available on Sundays. All mail deposited after posted cutoff times on Saturday will be dispatched the following business day (typically Monday), Robbs said.

Why was my mail delivered during Hurricane Irene?

On Dec. 19, there were 13 mail delivery vehicles and five 18-wheelers sitting idle in the parking lot the Post Office in Monkey Junction. What’s the explanation?
