Q. Are the Krispy Kreme doughnuts sold in local convenience and grocery stores made at the South College Road location? How many does it sell?

A.  Krispy Kreme sells about 850,000 dozen doughnuts a year out of its store and bakery at 2822 S. College Road, said Steve Wymer, who is area market manager for New Hanover Doughnut Co., a franchisee based in Myrtle Beach.

Counting wholesale, however, that number rises to 1.7 million dozen, he said. Those include all the Krispy Kreme doughnuts you’ll see for sale at convenience and grocery store chains in the Wilmington area, Wymer said.

The facility on South College Road includes a retail sales area, storage and a 1,850-square-foot bakery.

Not all Krispy Kreme products for sale in the Wilmington area, however, come from here.

“We get our pies, honey buns, powdered snack bags and doughnut holes from (a facility) in Concord that produces these products for all the East Coast,” Wymer said.
