Q. I have read that the former manager of the ABC stores, Billy Williams, was found guilty of a crime and has filed an appeal. When will his court date be and will StarNews give us news about the outcome? And is it true that he has until 2015 to pay his fine?
A. On Sept. 2 former New Hanover County Alcoholic Beverage Control chief Billy Williams filed an appeal in his August 2011 conviction on a felony charge of obtaining property by false pretense .
The judge gave Williams a suspended sentence of five to six months and 24 months of supervised probation. He also must pay a fine of $21,930 to the New Hanover County Clerk of Court. He has until Aug. 25, 2013, to pay the fines in full.
The StarNews will be following Williams’ appeal.
No court date has yet been set in the appeal.
UPDATE: Billy Williams’ appeal was denied in June 2013. Read the story here.
