Q. What are the chances for getting a walk light for the visually impaired from the east side of South College Road (Monkey Junction) at the library to the west side (WAVE Bus pickup area)?
A. Jessi Booker, deputy division traffic engineer for the N.C. Department of Transportation, said there currently are “not adequate pedestrian upgrades at this intersection for a marked crosswalk to be installed.”
The intersection “would require pedestrian signals, and adequate wheelchair ramps to lead pedestrians to,” Booker said.
NCDOT has previously received the same request and a Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization official was notified, Booker said.
“This way everyone is aware of this request and as pedestrian project opportunities become available we will have it on file,” she said.
“Please note,” she added, “there is a legal crosswalk at every signal, which means vehicles must yield to pedestrians even if there is no marked crossing.”
