Q. What is New Hanover County Commissioner Rick Catlin’s real job? How much work does his company do for the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority?
A. According to an election questionnaire from the StarNews, New Hanover County Commissioner Rick Catlin is president and owner of Catlin Engineers and Scientists in Wilmington, Raleigh and Atlanta. He is also founder of Catlin Language School in Charleston, S.C., and founder of Catlin Envirotechnik, GmbH in Leipzig, Germany.
According to Jacqueline Valade, a spokeswoman for the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority, the authority has never paid Catlin Engineers and Scientists for any work. Also, she said, the firm isn’t listed in the authority’s database as having had any contracts with it.
Catlin also said his company has not done any work for the Public Utility Authority.
Catlin, by the way, is a Republican running for election in the new state House District 20, which was created by the recent redistricting process and includes parts of northern New Hanover County. His opponent is Democrat Tom Gale of Wilmington.
