Q. Who is responsible for mowing the grass on the lower end of Independence Boulevard going toward River Road? It has not been mowed all summer and is very dangerous for walkers.
A. The city of Wilmington maintains Independence Boulevard from Shipyard Boulevard to River Road, as well as River Road from Shipyard Boulevard to Motts Creek, which is the south city limit of Wilmington, said Gerard M. Taylor, county maintenance engineer for the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Nina Johnston, city parks superintendent, said the section of Independence Boulevard referred to by the reader has not been neglected.
“I can assure you that this area of Independence has been mowed many, many times during the growing season,” Johnston said.
Johnston said that with the rainy weather that persisted for several weeks in August, “The grass has taken off and crews are behind but working steady to get back on their mowing rotation.”
“The sidewalk area along the Echo Farms Golf course along Independence is actually the golf course responsibility to mow, but city crews did cut between the sidewalk and street over the past week,” Johnston said.
