Q. What is the problem with the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge on the westbound lanes at the transition from the pavement to the grating? The grating is 1.5 to 2 inches higher than the pavement. Every time you cross it you get a resounding thud. It cannot be good for my suspension, much less the damage it is doing to my tires.
A. The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is owned by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). According to Tammy Stewart, Public Relations Office for the NCDOT, “the department is aware of the alignment issues and is in the process of coordinating efforts. We hope to be able to fix it in September.” Stewart went on to say that once a date has been chosen, the NCDOT will send out a release.
