When will DOT cut the grass and weeds in Carolina Beach Road median and shoulders?

Q. When will DOT cut the grass and weeds in the 421 South and Carolina Beach Road median and shoulders? The overgrown weeds and grass are reaching out onto the highway and are quite ugly. The Monkey Junction area needs attention now.

A. The grass along U.S. 421 was cut last week, Gerard Taylor, the NCDOT Division of Highways maintenance engineer for New Hanover County, said Wednesday (Aug 22).

“The next scheduled cutting will be in the latter part of September, dependent upon the weather,” Taylor said.

The recent heavy rains have put a damper on timely mowing in medians and other areas maintained by the N.C. Department of Transportation, said Joseph Chance, deputy traffic engineer.

“Please keep in mind with the rain we have been experiencing, all mowing has fallen behind a little,” Chance said.

Work in each community is scheduled for a specific time by NCDOT’s county maintenance engineer, Chance said.
