Q. Years ago there was a restaurant downtown that was known as Saffo’s were the owners related to the mayor? Wonderful food there.
A. “I sure am,” said Mayor Bill Saffo.
His grandfather, also named Bill Saffo, operated the restaurant at 249 North Front St.
Saffo said his grandfather operated the restaurant from 1929 up until the mid-1960s, when it was sold.
“You name it, they served it,” Saffo said. “It was a very popular restaurant.’
The mayor said people still ask him about his connection with the well-known eatery.
