How do I go about having a garage sale at my home? Are there permits I have to get?

Q. How do I go about having a garage sale at my home? I live in a neighborhood off Gordon Road that does not have an HOA. Are there permits I have to get? If so, where?

A. For yard sales being held in New Hanover County, there are no regulations.

Chris O’ Keefe, planning and inspections director of NHC, said, “If it is a one-time sale in the homeowner’s yard and they are not selling food or building any structures we do not regulate them.”

In the city of Wilmington, Richard King, public services director, is unaware of any city permits required to hold a yard sale.
