Q. Why doesn’t the city open the concession stand at Greenfield Park? It would be nice when you’re visiting with your family to be able to buy something to eat or an ice cream!

A. According to city spokesperson Malissa Talbert, the concession building adjacent to the paddle boat house at Greenfield Lake Park was privately operated by Bill Wishan until 2000, when he retired. In addition to the stand at Greenfield, Wishan also operated the concession stand at Empie Park.

The city operated the stand at Greenfield Lake Park following Wishan’s retirement, but had to discontinue the service several years ago because the cost to operate the stand was greater than the revenues generated. Significant upgrades to the building would be required in order to make it compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines and the county’s health codes.

Currently, the city operates concessions service at Legion Stadium, the Greenfield Amphitheater, Olsen Park, the Municipal Golf Course, and the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex.
