Whatever happened to Ernie Wayne of radio and WECT fame?

Q. Whatever happened to Ernie Wayne? He was on radio and WECT-TV for many years and just left. I heard it was something about his investigative reporting.

A. Ernie Wayne worked at WECT in the mid-1970s, said Bob Townsend, long-time host of “Carolina in the Morning” at the television station.

Ernie Wayne “was the name he used on-at when he worked at WECT,” Townsend said in an email response to questions about the former reporter.

Wayne still lives in Wilmington.

Wayne’s real name was not divulged. Efforts to contact him were unsuccessful.

No one at WECT had information as to why Wayne left the TV station.
