Q. Whatever happened to Charlie Long, who was sheriff of Brunswick County back in 1969 and the 1970’s, I think?
A. Charlie Long wasn’t sheriff of Brunswick County, but he was a deputy.
According to information provided by the sheriff’s office, Long served under Sheriff Harold Willets in the late 1960s.
A source, who wished not to be named, wasn’t able to provide much information, but said Long is still alive and in poor health.
Long was said to live in the Leland area, but MyReporter could not find a listing of him in a phone book.
UPDATE: Charlie Long passed away on July 23, 2012. Here is his obituary.
