Is there an update on the Military Cutoff Extension project?

Julian March

A final route for the Military Cutoff Road Extension was selected in May, said Mike Kozlosky, the executive director of the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Officials were tasked with selecting the least environmentally damaging route during what is called the merger process. They had to choose from two alternatives: one that veered away from Market Street and closer to Plantation Road and another that would run parallel with Market Street.

Officials selected the route that veered away to Plantation Road, known as alternative M1, Kozlosky said.

The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin purchasing right of way for the project in 2014, and the extension will be constructed from 2017 to 2019, he said.
