What were they filming at the house at Central Boulevard and Carolina Beach Road?

John Peaspanen

Q. What were/are they filming at the house on the corner of Central Boulevard and Carolina Beach Road? A film crew and large set were on location there on June 7, 2012.

A. According to Tammy Skinner, recreation program specialist for Wilmington’s Film and Media Services Office, “It’s a television movie called ‘Somebody’s Child.’”

“Somebody’s Child” will star NAACP Image Award-nominee Michael Jai White. It also features Lynn Whitfield, Nadine Ellis, Clifton Powell and Byron Minns.

The film is scheduled to air on the family-friendly cable network GMC in August. The production also shot footage at local restaurant Two Fat Ladies Over a Simmering Pot. Filming is expected to be completed in the next few weeks.

The screenplay, produced by SwirlFilms, was written by Siddeegah Powell, an African-American screenwriter, producer and businesswoman from Atlanta. It was runner-up in GMC’s 2011 Faith and Family Screenplay Competition, which promotes the development of faith-friendly family entertainment with a focus on the black American cultural experience, according to GMC.com.
