Q. What was the story behind the bar at the intersection of Pine Grove Road and Greenville Loop Road? I believe it was called the Loop Lounge. I remember the building being moved and not destroyed.
A. The bar is listed on at least one entertainment website as being located at 107 Greenville Loop.
The trail gets murky beyond that.
John Fullerton, city zoning administrator; and Roger Kelley, New Hanover County tax administrator; both provided photos showing that the Loop Lounge existed as late as 1998.
Denise Lewis, a Wilmington native and deputy register of deeds for New Hanover County, said, “As far as the Loop Lounge, yes, there was an establishment that actually sat more in the parking lot facing the store, to the left,” Lewis said.
“I believe they may have been there thru the late 80’s,” Lewis said.
In the 1998 aerial photo of the Loop Lounge, “We believe there was a travel agency next door and two or three houses on the west side of the property,” Fullerton said.
Kelly said county tax records “show no bar at that intersection.”
The address — 107 Greenville Loop Road — “never showed up in our records,” Kelley said.
