Q. What is the history of the Palomino Club, which was on Carolina Beach Road near Shipyard Boulevard?
A. The Palomino Club, a 1990s Wilmington dance and music club, used to operate at the corner of Shipyard Boulevard and Carolina Beach Road, 2649 Carolina Beach Road, said Joseph Sheppard, library associate in the Local History, Rare Books & Manuscripts section of New Hanover County Public Library.
The club was popular with film crews, country band enthusiasts and “roadies,” Sheppard said.
It had a capacity of 1,440 and attracted “big North Carolina players” such as Charlie Daniels and Daron Norwood, he said.
“The club also made local news for notorious disputes between management, fire marshals and state alcohol agents,” Sheppard said.
Although the Palomino Club closed in 1998, fans continue a following on Facebook.

Actually the Club was a little further up Carolina Beach Road just past the Frontier in what had been a Winn Dixie grocery store that set back off the road. You can still see what is left of the old parking lot. It is across the street from Rose’s.
When did the palomino club open and what is the history of the building it occupied?
