This work on Castle Street is part of the Dram Tree Park project.
Malissa Talbert, the city’s communication manager, said the city completed the first phase of updates and renovations to Dram Tree Park in October 2010. In March of this year, the city began a second phase of improvements that will add additional parking spaces for cars and boat trailers.
The construction on Castle Street also involves drainage improvements in the area. According to Talbert, an underground stormwater retention tank is being installed to allow storm water runoff to drain into the ground rather than into the Cape Fear River.
“An unanticipated delay by the manufacturer of the underground retention tank hampered construction for approximately 45 days. Work will begin on the project again as soon as the tank arrives next week,” said Talbert.
Once work restarts, the project should be completed within one month.
