Q. If a subdivision has a “no solicitation” sign posted, what should I do about offenders? OK to take down their car license and inform police?I think these folks are looking to see who is home and what can they steal.
A. According to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jerry Brewer, in the state of North Carolina there is no “No Solicitation” law, therefore it is not something that law enforcement can really enforce.
However, Brewer said, anytime someone believes that there may be suspicious people in the neighborhood, they should call 911 to have it investigated by law enforcement.

That response is typical of local law enforcement.
Perhaps people should read NC General Statute 14-159. It says if it is posted NO TRESPASSING where clearly visible, it is a crime to remain on the premises..
