Q. Why does the crossing guard at Pine Valley Elementary School wear a rain coat with the word “SHERIFF” on the back? Isn’t this illegal?
A. No, this is not illegal.
School crossing guards in New Hanover County and volunteers are under the sheriff’s office, said sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer. The sheriff’s office is responsible for the coordination of school crossing guards and providing them with equipment such as vests and rain jackets.

That’s your concern in life !? The rain coats with”SHERIFF”. One day when you have a child crossing the street you will want the rain coat, holding a flashing light, with flairs in the road ! Our children need ALL the help protection they can get from some of our Wilmington drivers.
