The senior citizen tuition waiver was eliminated at all UNC-system universities when the General Assembly passed a bill in 2009 repealing it, said school spokeswoman Dana Fischetti.
“UNCW had to eliminate that benefit for senior citizens by state law,” Fischetti said.
According to a newsletter released by the General Assembly’s fiscal research division, the change was expected to save the state about $300,000 each year.
