Hoggard’s total home football attendance was 11,431 in 2012, while New Hanover’s attendance was 7,625, according to officials at the two schools.
Both schools hosted five home football games in the regular season. The playoff football games hosted by New Hanover (against Hoggard and Southeast Raleigh) are not included since that revenue goes towards the NCHSAA.
That makes an average of 2,286 fans for Hoggard home games and 1,525 for New Hanover.
It’s also worth noting that Legion Stadium, where New Hanover plays home games, holds close to 10,000 spectators. Hoggard Stadium, while built in 2001, is smaller. But Hoggard was able to pack out the stadium for a big conference game against New Bern when both teams were ranked in the state.
Laney and Ashley did not immediately respond to requests for their attendance numbers.
