Neither the Wilmington Police Department or the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office use facial recognition software, according to their respective spokespeople.
“At this point it is still cutting edge technology which means it’s expensive,” said New Hanover sheriff’s Sgt. Jerry Brewer. “We do use biometrics such as fingerprint and eye retina scan.”
A retinal scan is a technique that identifies a person by the unique patterns on a person’s retina.
