The question: Why has Harris Teeter not transitioned to electronic signatures on receipts? The extra slip they print out to sign seems like a waste of paper.
The answer comes from Danna Jones, communication specialist with Harris Teeter: Thank you for sharing your reader’s question with my company. We are aware of the technology behind electronic receipts but have chosen at this time to continue to use the paper version.
Not only are we able to share valuable information with our shoppers about VIC card promotions, e-VIC specials and other programs Harris Teeter may be running during a given month, there are compliance issues which must be taken into consideration before adopting any new technology.
Given shoppers are coming to rely more on their smart phones and other electronic devices as a means to receive information, we will continue to monitor conversations on this topic and eventually determine if and when we incorporate into our systems.”
