When is the best time of year to trim pampas grass?

Pampas grass

Pampas grass can be cut as low as 3 to 4 inches from the ground. (StarNews file photo)

According to several websites, including ehow.com, pampas grass should be trimmed at the end of winter, before new growth emerges.

And here’s your bit of unsolicited pampas grass trivia: In at least some parts of the United Kingdom, pampas grass is used as a symbol to designate swingers. Radio 4 host Mariella Frostrup found this out when she planted a couple of plants outside her flat. After a few too many calls from interested couples, she made plans to get rid of the plants.

I realize I don’t speak for the majority, but IMHO all pampas grass should be plowed up and killed, especially at golf courses.
