Lendire Road is a privately maintained road, according to N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance engineer Gerald M. Taylor.
“Therefore, the road may be maintained by either a homeowners association or the developer,” Taylor said in an email.
“I wish that I could provide additional information as to who maintains the roadway, however, there is not a requirement which a private street owner must register maintenance with the department nor do we maintain a list,” he said.
The public can petition the N.C. DOT to add a road to the state highway system.
To qualify for acceptance to the system, the roadway must meet the requirements of the N.C. General Statutes, N.C. Administrative Code, minimum subdivision construction standards and local ordinances, Taylor said.
The point of contact to discuss the process and inquire if the roadway has been petitioned would be the N.C. DOT District Engineer’s Office for New Hanover County, at (910) 251-2655.

You just sent me this post as am answer to my question, but
I believe you missed the intent of my question…
I already knew that Lendire Road is privately maintained,
But the problem is the lack of that maintenance. I asked if there
Is something our County can do to force that needed maintenance
To occur.
Thank you
The answer is no. Responsibility for maintaining the road is with the homeowners association or the developer, not the county. The county can’t force the developer or HOA to improve the road.
