You’d think this would have to be Michael Jordan, right? Wrong.
Laney’s all-time leading scorer is Shatara Jackson, a Laney girls player in the class of 2008.
Jackson is currently at Elizabeth City State after stints at Winston Salem State and Louisburg College. Jackson scored 1,580 points at Laney to lead all scorers.
Kevin Whitted leads the Laney boys with 1,554 career points. Whitted graduated in 1990 and went on to play three years at Tennessee.
Jordan is sixth, behind Kevin Whitted, Jabbar Dickerson, Daren Dickerson, Marques Dickerson and Luther (Trey) Whitted. Behind Jordan on the list is current Laney player Elijah Wilson. According to Laney coach Fred Lynch, it’s unlikely that Wilson – a senior – would pass Jordan unless the Bucs, third in the Mideastern Conference, went on a particularly deep playoff run.
