Whatever happened to the cannon by the playground at Hugh MacRae Park?

According to Latashia Smith of the New Hanover County Parks and Gardens division, the cannon was removed in the early 1990s because of safety concerns – a lot of children were climbing all over the cannon – and inability to comply with the Americans With Disability Act.

The cannon was acquired by Strickland’s Surplus Inc. and can be seen on the company’s lot at 5915 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington [Map this].

I’m confused as to how an old cannon has anything to do with the American with Disability Act.
