Crews clear-cut trees and vegetation under Progress Energy transmission lines along Beasley Road in Wilmington on Oct. 18, 2011.(StarNews file photo)
Progress Energy uses a variety of tree-trimming companies throughout its service area, including the Alabama-based Burford’s Tree Inc.
But crew members are usually local residents, according to Jeff Brooks, a spokesman for the company.
“This company is headquartered in Alabama, but the crew members typically live locally and work locally there,” he said. “Some of their trucks do have Alabama license plates, which could cause additional confusion.”
